Write down following notes in your notebook:

  1. Map - a flat picture of part or all of the earth
  2. Globe - a small, sphere-shaped model of the earth
  3. Cartographer is a person who studies and makes maps.

  4. Make sure you know how awesome you are!  Know that you mean the world to me!

  5. Parts of a Map:
    1. Title - explains what the map is about (purpose)
    2. Compass Rose - symbol on the map that shows the directions
    3. Key/Legend - small section on a map that explains what the symbols mean
    4. Symbol - a mark or small drawing on a map that represents something
    5. Scale - small chart that shows the distances on a map
    6. Inset Map - is a smaller map featured on the same page as the main map. Often, an inset map is used as a locator map to help you see the location in a general sense of the world.

Make a diagram like this - and then analyze maps and globes and see if you can determine the pros and cons.  Do not read the articles below yet.  When you are finished check out the following links:
